The Janice oil field is located in block 30/17a in the Central North Sea, approximately 175 miles east-south-east of Aberdeen in 240 feet of water. Recoverable reserves are estimated to exceed 70 mm barrels of 37 degree API gravity crude oil.
Kerr-McGee acquired an interest in the license block in 1995 and through drilling 3 successful appraisal wells during 1995 and 1996 has earned a total interest of 50.9%. Kerr-McGee became operator of the field in May of 1996.
Janice is produced through the Janice A floating production unit (converted from the West Royal semi-sub). Oil is exported to Teesside through the Norpipe pipeline while gas is exported to the Judy platform.
