Friedrich Leutert & Company was founded in 1941 by Friedrich Leutert, a watchmaker by trade, and a gifted engineer. Friedrich Leutert & Company as instruments for the oil and gas industry, chronometers and navigational instruments for the shipping industry were designed by him. Friedrich Leutert & Company was established a major provider of subsurface and surface instruments mainly for the upstream oil and gas industry in Europe. Friedrich Leutert son, Hartwig Leutert, joined the company 1971. He initiated a rapid expansion program establishing offices and agencies in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. By the early 1980s the activities of Leutert were extended worldwide. During the last twenty years the successful development of new generations of electronic instruments, and related software, and services strengthened Leutert´s position. Leutert acquired the engine indicator product line from Maihak in Hamburg, thus partially returning to the roots of the early years, manufacturing of indicators became a second foundation for Leutert´s success. Leutert mechanical and electronical indicators are now being used by all major engine makers and ship owners.
