Aker Arctic Technology in short: construction of an engineering office and new ice model test basin
Aker Arctic Technology Inc (Aker Arctic, or AARC) was established on December 30, 2004 and continues as an independent company the operations of the former Wärtsilä Ice Model Basin (WIMB, 1969), Wärtsilä Arctic Research Center (WARC, 1983) and Kvaerner Masa-Yards Arctic Technology Center (MARC, 1989). Aker Arctic is a member of the Aker Group of companies, the main shareholder being Aker Finnyards Inc of Finland. Share capital is 6.0 M Eur. The company’s facilities are located in Helsinki, capital of Finland. Construction of an engineering office and new ice model test basin are underway in the Vuosaari container port and marine business park area in Helsinki. The plans are to move to the new premises at the end of 2005.
