Ae44 by Norsk Hydro, Magnesium alloys combine low component weight with cost competitive manufacturing. Thin walls, net shapes, high casting rates and long die life are typical advantages to be gained from using magnesium die-castings. Other advantages include excellent machinability, good damping capacity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI) shielding properties. High purity alloys and modern design techniques to avoid galvanic corrosion qualify magnesium for corrosive environments. AE44 This alloy stands for a breakthrough in new applications in the automotive industry. It combines excellent elevated temperature creep resistance with good strength and ductility, and furthermore show excellent corrosion properties. In addition to AE44, Hydro Magnesium has developed a family of AE alloys, with different rare earth content to tailor the alloy even more for specific applications
