IONICS Instrument Group, Produces a wide range of analysers, instruments and systems. Instruments in focus at ONS are oil-on-water monitoring
Ionics, a division of GE Infrastructure, Water & Process Technologies, first emerged over 50 years ago as a pioneer in technology for water purification and wastewater treatment. Today, Ionics is known for its expertise in the design, installation, operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment systems and is a leading provider of emergency and long-term water treatment services. More membrane-based desalination systems have been designed and built by Ionics than any other supplier worldwide. Ionics is also a leader in supplying zero liquid discharge (ZLD) systems, and the measurement and analysis of water impurities.
Water Systems Business Division
Ionics provides a range of proprietary technologies for water purification and wastewater treatment including ultrafiltration , reverse osmosis, electrodialysis reversal, electrodeionization, membrane bioreactors, ion exchange, seawater reverse osmosis, evaporation, and crystallization. Systems are available for purchase as capital equipment or under a variety of outsourcing arrangements.
Outsourcing Services
The Ecolochem brand of mobile services has positioned Ionics as the worldwide leader in long-term, build-own-operate contracts for municipal and industrial applications. Ionics' outsourcing services free industrial and municipal customers from having to worry about complying with increasingly strict state and federal water quality regulations by offering mobile equipment for emergency services and providing multi-skilled plant operators.
Specific outsourcing services include extended term, emergency, and supplemental for a broad base of industries including drinking water, nuclear and fossil power, refining, chemical, pulp and paper, microelectronics, automotive, food processing and maritime shipping. Technologies available include filtration, demineralization, reverse osmosis, deoxygenation, condensate polishing, electrodeionization, activated carbon adsorption, and gas transfer membrane processes for CO2 and O2 removal.
Major Projects
Over 3,000 Ionics water and wastewater systems have been installed around the world, including plants to supply water to major portions of cities or communities in the United States, Middle East, Europe and Caribbean. Key sectors include; power generation, petrochemical, municipal, microelectronics, food and beverage, biotechnology and nuclear. Listed below are some examples of Ionics' projects throughout the world.
Sample Major Project list:
Trinidad: Operating the Largest Desalination Plant in the Western Hemisphere
The construction of the largest seawater RO desalting plant in the Western Hemisphere, located in Trinidad, West Indies.
Kuwait: Largest Membrane-Based Water Reclamation and Reuse Facility in the World
Ionics won a 30-year concession from the Kuwait government in May 2001 and construction is under way on a facility to recover municipal wastewater from Kuwait City and the surrounding area.
Semiconductor Industry: Treating Wastewater for Taiwan's Largest Manufacturer
Ionics was selected by Taiwan's largest semiconductor manufacturer to handle four different wastewater projects.
Minneapolis: Building the Largest Surface Water Treatment Plant in the United States
In Minneapolis, Minnesota, Ionics has built the membrane system for what is the largest surface water treatment plant in the United States.
Power Industry: Providing Ultrapure Water for Power Plants throughout the World
With lower chemical, energy and labor costs, Ionics' state-of-the-art technology is meeting ultra pure water needs at power plants throughout the world. Approximately 90% of the integrated wastewater and ZLD systems for power plants around the world are designed by Ionics.
Consumer Water Group
Ionics' Consumer Water Group provides water purification and drinking water solutions for a variety of end-user needs and applications. For residential applications Ionics' whole house purification systems soften and purify water. Commercial systems provide solutions to businesses that require treated water to reduce operating costs and to extend equipment life.
CoolerSmart® serves both residential and commercial venues, supplies proprietary hot and cold drinking water coolers and eliminates the need for five gallon bottled water deliveries by providing refreshing purified water on demand from existing plumbing.
Instrument Business Group
Ionics Instrument Business Group, the analytical instrumentation division of Ionics, Inc., is the world's leading manufacturer of instruments used to measure total organic carbon (TOC) in water for ultra pure, potable, and wastewater applications. The Instrument Business Group offers advanced total carbon analyzers, boron analyzers, oxygen demand analyzers, sulfur and nitrogen chemiluminescence analyzers and detectors, nitric oxide analyzers and oil on water monitoring systems.
