Bexco nv is the holding company. Under the holding company there are two working companies active, namely BEXCOropes and BEXCOfibres. Both companies are ISO 9001 certified (2000 edition) and are located ± 30 minutes from the Port of Antwerp and ± 50 minutes from Brussels. The group has some hundred employees and in 2001 a turnover of ? 15 million. BEXCOropes manufactures ropes for marine and offshore applications and is one of the leading suppliers in the industry. It was formed when Bexco nv took over Le Lis nv in 1999 and merged it with Vermeire nv, its existing working company. This combination of products and know-how became BEXCOropes and through these companies the activities can be traced back to 1725 In marine applications the products range from polypropylene, polyester, Bexcoline composites to polyamide (nylon). Bexcoline is a composite fibre, which gives a cost-effective alternative to nylon with a higher fatigue life in water. Nylon ropes are used as towing springs and in a special six-strand design, called Atlas®, for ship mooring. In offshore applications HMPE (Dyneema® and Spectra®), Aramid ropes, Ultralines® (our parallel core design) and Single Point Mooring hawsers (Deltaflex®) are well known products. The systems comply with OCIMF guidelines. The mooring ropes DeepRope® are produced both in polyester and HMPE for the deepwater market. Typical sizes start at 6 mm diameter for three-strand rope and range up to 300 mm for parallel-strand ropes. Since November 2000 BEXCOropes and Vryhof Anchors bv have joined forces with regard to ropes used in the deepwater offshore industry. For the DeepRope® polyester and Dyneema® mooring ropes, Vryhof Anchors bv (together with their subsidiaries and agents) is responsible for the worldwide and exclusive marketing & sales. BEXCOfibres manufactures tape, yarn and strapping and is one of the most flexible suppliers in the industry. Although it was already an active manufacturer of polypropylene yarns, its activities more than doubled when Bexco nv combined these with the activities of the extrusion group within Le Lis nv. Here the combination resulted in a highly flexible extrusion group
